Meepo is frightening to face when you are not used to him. Five heroes appear from nowhere, nets root your team, and your support dies before you can react. The good news: Meepo has clear weaknesses, and a team that knows them can shut him down.
The golden rule
Kill one Meepo and you kill them all. Everything in this guide follows from that. You do not need to beat the whole pack; you need to catch one clone.
Draft counters
If Meepo is picked early, consider these heroes:
- Earthshaker — Echo Slam deals more damage when more units are nearby. A pack of Meepos is the ideal target.
- Leshrac — constant area damage that punishes clustered clones.
- Ember Spirit — Sleight of Fist hits every Meepo in range.
- Sven — cleave through the pack.
- Winter Wyvern — Winter's Curse makes clones attack each other.
- Sand King — Burrowstrike and Epicenter punish grouped Meepos.
- Timbersaw — pure area damage and sustain.
Items that hurt Meepo
| Item | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Spirit Vessel | Reduces healing, which cripples Ransack's pack-wide lifesteal |
| Shiva's Guard | Area damage, attack slow and healing reduction |
| Crimson Guard | Blocks damage from many small attacks |
| Blade Mail | Punishes the pack for attacking the same target |
| Force Staff | Pushes a single Meepo out of Poof range of the pack |
| Observer and Sentry Wards | Vision in the Meepo's jungle finds lonely clones |
Laning phase
- Pressure before level 3. Meepo is weak with one body. A dual-lane gank or aggressive trading at levels 1–2 slows him down.
- Punish the first clone. The clone often farms a nearby camp. Your supports should check the camps around mid lane from minute 3 onwards.
- Contest runes. Meepo wants runes badly. Taking them denies his early power.
Mid game
- Deward and ward his jungle. A Meepo who farms in darkness is safe; a Meepo who farms under your vision is a target.
- Smoke ganks on lone clones. One kill is a full team kill.
- Interrupt Poof. Every instant disable — stun, silence, hex — cancels the long Poof channel. Hold one for when the pack starts poofing.
- Stay together. Meepo is best at killing isolated heroes. A group of three or four is hard for him to pick apart.
Teamfights
- Wait for the pack to collapse. A good Meepo spreads out and poofs in at the last moment. Save your area spells until the clones are grouped.
- Target the clones, not the Prime. The Prime usually holds Black King Bar. Clones do not.
- Watch for Dig. With Aghanim's Shard, each Meepo can burrow and heal. Keep damage available for when it resurfaces.
The late game is yours
If you survive until 35–40 minutes without falling hopelessly behind, you are in a good position. Meepo's scaling is weaker than most carries, and teams with Shiva's Guard, Crimson Guard and a strong area-damage hero will usually win the late game. Defend, farm, and do not take bad fights.
