Few heroes in Dota 2 have as complex an inventory relationship as Meepo, and on July 28, 2026 that complexity caught up with him. Valve temporarily disabled the hero after players discovered an exploit that allowed unlimited item duplication. A hotfix arrived the same day and Meepo returned to the matchmaking pool.
What happened
Players found a way to combine Meepo's clone inventory behavior, courier interactions, the stash and item-combination mechanics to duplicate components. The exploit specifically allowed the creation of unlimited Sange and Yasha, which could then be sold for effectively infinite gold. A player abusing the bug could fill six item slots within a few minutes — enough to decide a match on its own.
We are intentionally not describing the steps. The bug is fixed, but repeating the method helps nobody.
Valve's response
- Meepo was disabled from matchmaking once the exploit was identified.
- A hotfix was deployed the same day, closing the duplication mechanism.
- Meepo was re-enabled after the fix.
- Valve did not publicly announce penalties for accounts that used the exploit.
It was not the first time Meepo had needed urgent attention. Earlier in 2026, bug-fix updates also targeted Meepo-related exploits, a reminder that a hero who is really five heroes creates edge cases the rest of the roster does not.
Why Meepo attracts bugs
Meepo's clones are heroes that cannot hold most items but copy boots and attributes, share experience, and die together. Every system that touches inventories — the courier, the stash, neutral items, item combining, backpack swaps — has to handle that special case correctly. When a patch changes any of those systems, the special case can break.
Should you worry about playing Meepo?
No. The hotfix is live and the hero is stable. If you ever see an opponent with an impossible item build in the first minutes of a game, report the match through the in-game system rather than trying to reproduce the behavior yourself: using an exploit can put your own account at risk.
